Baseline Study for Breath of Life: Strengthening Health Systems to Combat Childhood Pneumonia by Bal Raksha Bharat (Save the Children) 2024
The "Baseline Study for Breath of Life: Strengthening Health Systems to Combat Childhood Pneumonia," conducted by Bal Raksha Bharat (Save the Children) in 2024, aimed to assess pneumonia management in children under five in alignment with WHO’s Global Action Plan (GAPP). A household survey was conducted in the Harvan block of Srinagar District, covering 490 households to evaluate the prevalence of pneumonia-related symptoms, health-seeking behaviors, out-of-pocket expenditure, and the levels of preventive, protective, and treatment interventions. Additionally, the study assessed facility readiness by surveying 52 public health facilities across eight districts in Jammu and Kashmir to evaluate their capacity to manage childhood pneumonia cases.
