The "Feasibility Study for the UEH Program in Asansol Municipal Corporation (Raniganj), West Bengal," conducted by Sightsavers India in 2024, aimed to identify gaps in infrastructure, human resources, and community knowledge to inform tailored eye care services in urban slums. The study assessed the feasibility of initiating eye care services, evaluated demand, identified potential service locations, and analyzed the competitive landscape. Using a mixed-methods approach—desk reviews, slum mapping, surveys, and interviews—data were collected from 378 respondents across 20 slums. Key challenges, such as low education, informal employment, economic vulnerability, and inadequate housing and sanitation, were identified to guide future eye care interventions.
