Informal Workers & Social Protection in Tamil Nadu: Challenges During Covid-19 Lockdown, AREDS -2020
The study "Informal Workers & Social Protection in Tamil Nadu: Challenges During Covid-19 Lockdown" was conducted by AREDS in 2020 to assess the social protection challenges faced by informal workers during the pandemic lockdown. The cross-sectional survey, conducted across 20 districts in Tamil Nadu, included 1,008 workers and focused on understanding the status of worker registrations with welfare boards. The study used a mixed-methods approach, including six focus group discussions and stakeholder interviews, to identify issues in the online registration process and propose recommendations for improving access to social security benefits for informal workers. Iotalytics provided technical expertise and data management support for the project.
